Social Media News: Redesign of LinkedIn Mobile App
LinkedIn recently overhauled its mobile app. The company claims the new design makes the app easier to use, and it dramatically simplifies the user experience. The new app has five main tabs—“Home,” “Me,” “Messages,” “My Networks” and “Search.”
Users had complained that the previous version of the app was too confusing to use and they were receiving too many app notifications. The new tabs divide up information so users aren’t overwhelmed seeing everything in one place. Users also have the option to select what types of notifications they receive.
LinkedIn also made its messaging feature resemble other social media apps, like Facebook Messenger. Users can now add stickers and attach documents to their messages, as well as start conversations by typing the name(s) of their contacts.

Social Media Platform of the Month: Polyvore
Since its launch in 2007, Polyvore has become one of the most effective social platforms for ecommerce sites to drive sales. It accounts for 20 percent of social retail conversions, and the average order from the site is about $220. As typical of social media sites, businesses can pay to promote their products.
The site focuses mainly on fashion and home décor items, which users organize into “sets,” similar to pinboards in Pinterest. Users arrange products on their sets to create a collage with each product, presenting pricing, details and origin when hovered over. The goal is for shoppers to find new styles and trends from different brands around the world.
Current Boutique seems to have found success on Polyvore. The high-end consignment clothing store creates sets with specific themes and includes multiple products to create a complete look. Current Boutique also makes sure that it likes its followers’ boards and engages with them. It also runs contests and giveaways to encourage people to check out the products and hopefully purchase items.
