Social Media News: Facebook Lets Users Edit News Feed
The latest update on Facebook allows users to edit which friends they see first when they log in. To prioritize your news feed, click on the more menu and select news feed preferences. From there, you can choose what content is most important to you. The news feed preferences menu includes options to prioritize what you see first, unfollow people, reconnect with unfollowed people and discover new pages. You may choose up to 30 people to be at the top of your news feed.
Previously, what users saw in their Facebook news feed was controlled by engagement algorithms. With this latest update, companies will need to try harder to post engaging content so that fans dont remove them from their news feeds. Companies should make their posts be informative, entertaining and/or interactive, and they should frequently include photos and videos.
Social Media Tip of the Month:Follow the 5/3/1 Rule
On Instagram, some ways to find your target audience include following hashtags related to your industry and looking up the people that follow your competitors. After finding your audience, like five photos and comment on three that your audience members post. This will send notifications to the users and gain more attention for your brand. This has been proven to help gain more followers (on average, one per day, according to Instaguru Chalene Johnson).
Social Media Platform of the Month: Periscope
Periscope is an app that allows users to stream live video from anywhere in the world. These videos, which can be viewed through Periscope or a web browser, can be commented on and liked in real time. The app also displays the number of people watching the video at any point in time during the live stream.
Any business can use Periscope. To draw in audiences, businesses should choose compelling titles and create a consistent schedule of when they will stream.
Some ways that a business can use Periscope include Q&A sessions, live support for a FAQ, live tutorials of products, live focus groups, live tours of headquarters or store and watching videos that customers stream. All of these uses help break down the barriers between a company and its customers.
