Social Media News: Instagram Adds New Features
Instagram users can now mention other users, use Boomerang in-app, and, if verified, insert links into comments (previously, the only link you could show was in your profile). These new features enhance user connectivity and provide users a creative outlet.
The new Instagram Story borrows from Snapchat several features, including short-term videos/photos that are available for only 24 hours. That means businesses using Stories should make the videos/photos as timely, not timeless, as possible. An example could be a limited-time promotion.
To make an Instagram Story, first make sure your Instagram is updated to the latest version. Then go to the top of your Instagram feed and select the circle that says "Your Story."
Social Media Tip of the Month: Advertising Around the Holidays
This year, spend more of your ad dollars on days earlier in the week, particularly Tuesdays. According to Marketing Land, the share of total weekly purchases made on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the holidays rose compared to the same days the rest of the year.
Thus, from now until the end of the holiday season, you should plan your ad schedule to be heavy on these days to increase the likelihood of sales of your products or services.
Social Media Platform of the Month: WhatsApp
WhatsApp is a free messaging app that uses data/wifi instead of SMS for texts and voice for calls.
Launched in 2009, WhatsApp has more than 1 billion users worldwide. WhatsApp now offers advertisers the ability to retrieve salient customer information through Facebook, which bought the app in 2014.
For example, you can take users' location and interests from WhatsApp to tailor your Facebook ads. WhatsApp said "we will explore ways for (users) and businesses to communicate with each other."
